My sister the Artist
I want to do a little bragging about my sister, Donna Castellanos. Most people know about my niece who creates Pockit Palz, but what you don't realize is that my niece really does get her talents from my sister. She is known as a salvage artist because all her works of art have some piece that has been salvaged. You can check out some of her pieces on her Flicker site, just click on her name above.
I still have hopes of opening part of our studio as an Art Gallery, and hope that Donna will be one of the first artist to have a show. I might need to include her whole family as they each have a very unique talent.
Here are just a few of Donna's pieces of art, and yes they are all for sale.
This is one of my favorite pieces. Painting on board with old frames on top and bottom. Her skirt is a pattern of gold leaf and little screw hooks. The title is "Joan", named after our mom.
This is the Be Bowl. We actually have a sample of this in our studio. These make great gifts for showers, birthday parties, anniversary partys, etc. They come with wooden beads that guests can write creative sayings on. Feel free to contact the studio if you want more information on Donna, or if you are interested in exhibiting when we move forward with our art gallery.

Santa's hat is from and old pie tin. She painted his face on canvas. The letters are old stamps and typewriter keys

The One Conference
I wanted to talk a little about the conference we attended last week. It was not a conference about photography, even though it was only for photographers, and one awesome videographer. It was a huge lesson into looking at ourselves as a husband and wife team, not just in our business, but in our lives.
We heard amazing stories from some of the industries top husband and wife teams. We met some great couples who have the same challenges that we do, that I am sure we will remain friends for a lifetime! There was a lot of good times, a lot of laughing, and a few tears.
One of the things we learned was that we need to put each other and our family before the business. It is something that we always knew, but is really very hard to do. It is something that we are working on changing starting today.
I want to share some of the images from the seminar. These were all taken by the very talented Kenny Kim, based out of Chicago. The whole thing was also filmed by the very talented Ron Dawson of Cinematic Studios. Ron was there with his wife to partake in the seminar, too.
This was the panel of speakers, from left to right, Jeff & Julia Woods, Jen and Steve Bebb, and Tami & Dane Sanders. Missing from the pic is Zack Arias, who spoke our first night there. All the speakers were truely inspiring, they opened their hearts to us, and made us realize that even they face the same challenges we do. What is even more inspiring is that Jeff & Julia have 4 kids!
We all had the oppertunity to go on a date night. We chose the pottery class. We should be receiving our projects in the mail soon, and we will proudly display them at our studio to remind us of this awesome experience. After class we all went out to dinner.
Some of the other couples went to a cooking class, I think they drank to much of the cooking wine! The other option was dinner & a movie, complete with a limo ride!
Here is the whole group. We all grew a lot closer after this experience, and I hope to see all of them next year at the next "One Conference"! If you are a married photographer reading this, and you are thinking about how to spend your education dollars for next year, this is one of the most important seminars you should attend. It really was a life changing experience for us!I want to thank Jeff & Julia, from the bottom of my heart for putting this together!

I had to post this pic, there is a great candy shop next to Jeff and Julia's studio. We brought back gummi butterflies, gummi fried eggs, and gummi army men for the kids. We also brought back marshmallow ice-cream cones.

Side by Side 24/7
Where are Coby and Diane this week? We are at a very unique conference just for married couples who work together. It is being hosted by the fabulous team of Jeffery and Julia Woods, who run a very successful studio outside of Peoria, IL and also have a very successful marriage. We have been looking forward to this for a long time, and we will try to keep you posted as to what we are doing while at the conference.
If you need to reach us, we will try to answer emails while we are away, or Matt will be at the studio to answer your questions.

Look who is about to turn two! Christian has been coming to us every since he was an infant. Just look how much he has grown! I am sure he is looking forward to his birthday party which is going to have a monkey theme, hence the Small Paul t-shirt from my favorite store, The Grapevine! If you want to check out a great website, click on the Small Paul link, our kids love this site!

Kali and Patrick are engaged
How much fun can you have at one small town carnival? Just ask Kali and Patrick. Coby met them at the local carnival for their engagement session and I am pretty sure that some fun was had by all.
They have a very unique engagement story, that has something to do with the parking lot that the carnival was set up at, but I will let them tell you that story! It is definitely one of the most creative I have heard so far.
We are really looking forward to their wedding next year!

Amanda is a Senior
We were so glad when Amanda came to us for her senior portraits! You see, we did Amanda's dad's wedding quite a few years ago, and a little while ago we did Amanda's big brother Drew's senior portraits. We really do love to see family's grow and it is great to see Amanda grow into a beautiful young women!
Here are a few of our faves from Amanda's session.
